Introducing Program Manager Camp

Calling all the “forgotten PM’s” out there – Program Managers. I was chatting with Program manager Jahleesa Phelps the other day. She leads hundreds of students through BVCC’s career programs for Black students. Jahleesa said it all: “I’ve seen communities for project managers and product managers, but there doesn't seem to be a community for PROGRAM managers to share, learn, and network.”

I've always felt the same way. When I was running cohort-based programs, I felt that there were very few best practices I could find out there. I also found that I had to leverage a variety of skills (from project management, to event planning, facilitation, marketing/communication, strong operations, etc.) and pay strong attention to details along the way. I would have benefited from the opportunity to learn from other program managers. 

So…we’re launching the first-ever community for Program Managers.

What is it? A FREE 3-week cohort-based course designed to promote learning, community, and best practice sharing. Fridays, 10-11am PST, starting March 22. 

Who’s it for? Program Managers, Coordinators, and Leaders who are curating learning + community experiences. Think: student programs, internship or fellowship programs, accelerators, women or LGBTQ+ professional development, workforce development, L&D leaders.

What's on the agenda? We'll cover some of the biggest pain points and challenges for running an effective program, from program recruitment, to driving engagement, to evaluating program success. The sessions will be a combination of facilitation + sharing with each other.

1. Program Recruitment + Marketing (Fri Mar 22, 10 - 11 AM PST) →

   1. You’re a marketer now! How do you craft your program’s value prop?

   2. What assets do you need to create?

   3. What are best practices for crafting and screening a high volume of program applications?
      
      

2. Driving Engagement & Attendance (Fri Mar 29, 10 - 11 AM PST) →

   1. So you’ve got your program participants, now how do you get them engaged? How do you maximize attendance of the events and experiences you’re painstakingly designing?

   2. Onboarding a big part to play, as do tracking systems

      
      

3. Evaluating Program Success + Impact Metrics (Fri Apr 5, 10 - 11 AM PST) →

   1. Sometimes you can intuitively experience the impact of a program, but that’s not usually enough. How can you measure what seems immeasurable?

   2. What are best practices for measuring impact throughout the course of the program?

Who’s hosting? Campground! Our mission is to power the people BEHIND the programs, who are providing vital services to their communities, with the operational tools they need to scale their impact. I’ll be the facilitator along with Cristina Martin (who has joined us part-time; she works for one of my long-time partners and Campground user, the Schuler Scholar Program!)

PM Camp builds on my passion for leading communities of practice, and I can’t wait to see the wonderful network effects that will come from sharing and exchanging ideas and best practices.
